Education creates boundless social and economic opportunities, breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a more secure and prosperous future for all.   This event for educators and those interested in education in the developing world will explore how Canada and Canadians are improving quality and access to educational opportunities at all levels. The presentation will highlight the Madrasa Early Childhood Programme in East Africa.

The presentation and discussion will be followed by a screening of Creating Confidence: Madrasa Early Childhood Programme:  This film describes the work and the approach of the Madrasa Programme in East Africa.  The film explores what a “typical” day is like in a Madrasa pre-school and looks at the importance of pre-school education for helping young children prepare for later learning and life.

This event is presented by Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) and Pier 21, Canada’s Immigration Museum as part of the month-long exhibition, BRIDGESTHATUNITE.  From October 4 to November 4, BRIDGESTHATUNITE will be presented at Pier 21 in the Ralph and Rose Chiodo Harbourside Gallery, along with a series of special events, including film screenings, musical performances, lectures and panel discussions.  For more information please visit www.bridgesthatunite.ca.
